In November, Palworld’s official Twitter/X account announced that in 2025, Palworld and Terraria would be collaborating. Given that this news came through Palworld’s social media, we can confirm that Terraria content will be coming to Palworld in some capacity. However, more important to this conversation is whether Terraria will receive any Palworld content.
Terraria fans have been waiting almost two years for an update to the well-loved game, which has received many so-called “final” updates throughout the years. The developer team, Re-Logic, always seems to find something new to add every so often, prompting huge content updates that often drastically change multiple aspects of the game.
The most recent update to Terraria, 1.4.4, was released in November 2022 for PC and was dubbed “Labor of Love,” focusing on bug fixes, balance, and extensive new content. Along with this update, a post was made to the official Terraria forums, where it was announced by developer Loki that Terraria would be collaborating with Dead Cells to bring new content to Terraria in an upcoming update dubbed 1.4.5, due sometime in 2023.
In the time since that announcement, 1.4.5 has become a seemingly monolithic update that has eluded Terraria for over a year due to Re-Logic’s commitment to deliver something huge. Recently, in November 2024’s State of the Game news update, the Re-Logic team confirmed on the Terraria forums that 1.4.5 would be delayed to 2025. Fans across social media and the Terraria forums praised Re-Logic for this choice, given the development team’s track record of delivering gigantic updates worth the wait.

With Palworld joining Dead Cells as a collaboration slated for the 1.4.5 update, some fans are concerned about the future prospects of Terraria on Nintendo consoles. In September 2024, an official statement was made by Palworld’s developer and publisher, Pocketpair, that The Pokémon Company and Nintendo Co., Ltd. filed a patent infringement lawsuit against them specifically regarding Palworld. Many Reddit and Twitter/X users believe the lawsuit is uninformed and unlikely to succeed, but the possibility of Re-Logic maintaining good standing with Nintendo to the degree that Terraria might make it onto future Nintendo consoles or even remain on the Switch eShop can be questioned by the choice to collaborate with a game company, and a game, actively being sued by Nintendo. Even if the lawsuit is dismissed, Re-Logic is dangerously skirting a possible PR breakdown between themselves and Nintendo.
Some Terraria fans have voiced their displeasure with the Palworld collaboration on Reddit, prompting user Wapple21 to ask, “What’s with all the people against the Palworld crossover?” in a post on the Terraria subreddit. User TaypokemonTaken sums up the argument against the crossover pretty well in a comment on Wapple21’s post that they just “don’t like the game and think Terraria could’ve had a better crossover.” Other users, like Naira_Is_Here, went into more detail and garnered support from fellow Terraria fans.
While Terraria’s previous collaborations with games like Stardew Valley, Don’t Starve Together, and Dungeon Defenders 2 have prompted praise from fans for collaborating with great games that have this so-called “indie-soul,” the outcry against Palworld is a noteworthy occurrence given that Terraria fans commonly support the game in whatever new content it brings. Only time will tell whether these fans will change their minds about the collaboration and what the future holds in store for Terraria on Nintendo consoles.
