Multiplayer Mode

Although the teaser doesn’t directly reveal a lot of details about the new sequel, the trailer unveils a few. For example, the developers of Subnautica have finally released the long-sought feature of multi-person co-operative gameplay – playing with your closest friends in order to experience the true depths of the ocean. However, fans of the original single-player, fear not! The developers have decided to keep the main aspects of the storytelling and gameplay, in order to try and maintain the feeling that the original Subnautica created – but in addition to having other divers alongside your journey.

There are so many exciting ways the gameplay and story could unfold with copiloted vehicles and habitat-building expansions. Plus, different perspectives in the story might mean you and your partner collaborating to piece together the planet’s mysteries. It will be interesting to see and experience how the co-op gameplay works, especially considering that the original Subnautica was strictly single player driven – after all, the entire premise of the original was you being the sole survivor on an alien planet after your ship, Aurora, crashed. However, the community mods for the original Subnautica, among other things, suggest how it could work.

A New Planet to Explore

That’s right! We are no longer on the planet that started it all. The story takes us to a new planet, where the map is, according to rumors, its biggest. There are new biomes, new species of fauna and flora to study and explore, and new creatures that lurk in the depths. Additionally, there’s brand-new hype from the series’ most dominant and notable creatures, The Leviathans, bringing the horrifying realization of your spot at the bottom of the food chain.

In the teaser, a glimpse of a new beast can be seen – and from the looks of it, it could be one of the biggest yet. Currently, the biggest living Leviathan is the Sea Emperor, and the biggest over all time is the Gargantuan Leviathan, but this Kraken-esque creature might just change that. With that information? The realization that your chances of survival are almost zero is incredibly intense. But then again, that terrifying reality is what makes Subnautica so unique.

Plans for 2025

Unknown Worlds is gearing up for the early access launch of Subnautica 2 in 2025, and the anticipation is mounting! I’m looking forward to the developer updates provided throughout the year. These updates should give us a sneak peek into new features, improvements, and developing twists.

The addition of co-op gameplay, new biomes, story-telling, and those terrifying Leviathans makes this sequel one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. As we await more news from Unknown Worlds, I can’t help but feel excited about diving into this new, mysterious ocean world. One thing is for certain, though…this dive will certainly be one to remember!
